Abbott Laboratories needed an engaging, interactive and genuinely useful app that could be used as the cornerstone of a customer acquisition campaign.
They settled on providing a platform for customers of their 'Ensure' product to track their BMI and monitor muscle mass gain. To achieve this, they required a secure, user-friendly customer portal hosted entirely on HubSpot, where users could log in, input their weight and height, and view a chart tracking their BMI progress over time.
The Solution
Abbott Laboratories discovered SpotDev's expertise in HubSpot solutions and decided to collaborate with them to develop the BMI tracker portal. After considering other solutions, they chose SpotDev and HubSpot for their innovative approach and reliable track record.
The portal was designed to allow user login, data input, and visual progress tracking in an entirely HubSpot-hosted environment.

SpotDev's team worked with Abbott Laboratories to conduct user experience research, user interface design, and prototyping to ensure that internal stakeholders could visualise the finished product and provide feedback during a rapid turnaround project.
With the designs signed off, SpotDev then provided custom development support to create a HubSpot theme, templates and modules that would allow the app to be easily maintained and updated. Simple text and image changes wouldn't require developer support because they could be made directly in the HubSpot CMS.
The Results
The BMI tracker portal successfully enabled users to monitor their health metrics and observe significant improvements. This app then formed the central lead generation/nurturing asset in a series of campaigns across countries including the UK, Italy, Spain, and South Africa.
The image below shows the fields that users completed each week to track their child's BMI. Parents received a weekly email prompting them to update their child's height, weight, and the date of measurement. At the end of the eight-week period, they were sent a full summary of their child's progress via email.
